Together we Celebrate - Platinum Jubilee

To celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, we held a 'Kings & Queens Day'.  What fun we had!

We began with drama, acting out the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II which included singing Zadok the Priest and our National Anthem. We were joined by Julia Orpin who shared her memories of the coronation with us.

After making crowns and corgis in mixed age groups, we had our jubilee lunch in the hall surrounded by special bunting made from upcycled material and our handprints.

Then it was time for country dancing: we chose a   partner and Mrs Singleton called out the instructions - how we laughed as we skipped and spun around the playground.

Finally, we gathered in the hall to share our history research. We had interviewed our parents and grandparents about their memories of past jubilees and the coronation, and we had researched a monarch to dress up as. We discovered that Monty's great grandfather was a Welsh Guard who protected the Queen during her coronation, and that Esmie's family had a tin from the 1977 Silver Jubilee that still had the biscuits inside! One pupil took inspiration from her grandmother, dressing as the Queen of Hearts, just as her grandmother had done for the coronation in 1953.

A truly memorable day!
